Tianjin Qingyuan Electric Vehicle Co., Ltd shipped 306 electric trucks in March and April to the US. This is the first time of the truck with full intellectual property rights to be exported. The trucks will serve universities, electricity plants and navy bases there.
The truck is part of the National 863 Program Qingyuan undertakes.
Qingyuan Company manages to export the trucks through an agent in the US.
The truck body is provided by Hafei Automobile Group.
Up to now, Qingyuan has virtually finished the construction of a base for the industrialized demonstration of electric vehicles and put them into small volume production. The single shift capacity of the base is 20,000 units a year, much bigger than the 3,000 units of Citroen.
The lead-acid battery equipped truck has a range of 100 km and lithium batteries can raise the max speed to up to 70 km from the current 40 km.
Qingyuan Company expects to ship more than 900 electric vehicles to the US by June, including 200 cars. In the future 2 years, the company may export 5,000 units a year.
The trucks are not allowed to sell in China, due to a lack of the standard.
Another obstacle for the sales of the truck is price. An executive of Qingyuan Company said now reduced equipment of the truck can make the price to around 50,000 yuan. And greater capacity and technology progress will give rise to further price reductions. |
