It is necessary to, in order to completely evaluate multi vehicle energies, fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions of drive technologies, pay attention to the systematic evaluation of fuel/vehicles, beginning from material obtaining, through fuel production and finally to the vehicle operations. It is in fact an entire system from the well to the wheel.
There have been a lot of similar reports on European countries and the US published in the world. China attaches great attention to the study. This report, based on China¡¯s unique energy resource conditions, its production and consumption structures and the technological levels of various vehicular fuel production, chooses typical vehicle architectures, adopts the vehicle working modes in China, carries study on the multi-end matches.
This study, targeting each of the fuel- drive technology pair, focuses on the following 5 chains of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
(1) Obtaining of materials, such as coal, petroleum and corn;
(2) Materials to be transported to fuel plant;
(3) Fuel production;
(4) Fuel transportation and fuelling;
(5) Vehicle operations
The target year of this study: 2015
This study involves 4 kinds of fuels: petroleum/ natural gas/ bio and coal-based fuels. And the mentioned drive technologies include: spark ignited engine, direct injection diesel engine, spark ignited hybrid, diesel engine hybrid, fuel cell electric, fuel cell hybrid, etc.
